frequently asked questions
Bike sharing is new, and Bloo Bike is a completely new model of a company! Here are some questions we often receive:
- What is bike sharing? Bike sharing is having a certain number of bikes available for community use. The community might be an apartment building, a workplace or the public at large. It has become popular in Europe (the Velib bike share in Paris is the largest one) and is coming to the US very soon! So far, it has been rolled out on a municipal level by cities, but Bloo Bike is looking to CHANGE that. We believe that innovation in the US comes from the private sector and are working with private entities - companies, hotels, apartment buildings - to help their clients have easy access to bikes at any time.
- Why can't we just set up a bike share for ourselves? Good question. You can. However, what happens is that there is a lot of excitement and momentum at the beginning, and then the bikes go into disrepair and no one wants to ride them, and they are dangerous. We keep them in great shape through our onsite maintenance program so it is a positive experience for the riders. In addition, we provide insurance liability protection so a sponsor need not take undue risk.
- I'm an individual, does Bloo Bike rent bikes to individuals? Currently, not regularly. We are working on establishing a technology-based platform to rent to individuals. However, if you would like to potentially 'beta' test different models of bike sharing, please contact us. If you work in an organization or live in a building that you think would benefit from a bike share, please either contact us or urge the landlord / employer to do so!
- What does a bike share cost? Because different clients have different needs at different locations, we cost each potential bike share out individually. Please contact us to discuss.
- What other services does Bloo Bike offer? We have people experienced working with clients of many types - real estate owners, REITS, developers, individuals, Fortune 500 companies - and can work with you to help provide bike solutions and planning for a more bike-friendly location, whether it is planning for a commuter bike facility or working on transportation management plans for a future development.
